Once you know how to use Capt'n Jacks Tide and Current Almanac and calculate the Rule of Thirds, you're ready for the shortcut...the SeaGrant and UW's BIS Portal (Boater Information Systems). By selecting either tides or currents, you can track their rise and fall or ebb and flood. You can move hour by hour and day by day through time to get an accurate representation of tides and currents. It's limitation, however, is that it's electronically-based, so if you're out on an expedition and your itinerary changes, it's important to know how to figure all of that out on your own.
